How to Start Your In Home Daycare IN TEXAS

The three Types of In-Home Daycare in Texas:

Level 1 – Listed Daycare (aka Exempt)

If you are compensated to provide regular child care (at least four hours per day, three or more days a week, for three or more consecutive weeks or four hours a day for 40 or more days in a 12 month period) in your own homes for 1-3 unrelated children, you will need to get Listed. However, there are no minimum standards, orientation or training requirements for listed homes.

General Requirements:

Max # of Children: up to 3 unrelated children
Caregiver age: at least 18 years old

Costs:

Background Check: You will be notified after application if necessary
Application Fees: $20 annual fee

Level 2 – Registered In Home Daycare

Caregiver provides care in their own home for no more than 12 children can be in care at any time, including their own children. The number of children allowed in a home is determined by the ages of the children. A registration certificate is issued after licensing staff completes an on-site inspection to ensure minimum standards are met.

General Requirements

Max # of Children: up to 12 children (including care givers children)
Background Check: Required (on all people over 14 living in the home or regularly in the facility)

Training Required

Orientation Class: Yes
Abuse and Neglect Class: Yes
Adult / Infant First Aid and CPR: Yes

Inspections Required

State Inspections: Every 1 – 2 years (or if a complaint is filed)
Sanitation Inspection Required for License: Yes

Costs

Application Fees: $35 application fee + $2/per background check
Sanitation Inspection: Varies (up to $125

Level 3 – Licensed Child Care Homes

Licensed Child Care Homes provide care for 7-12 children under 14 years old in the permit holder’s own home. A license is issued after licensing staff completes on-site inspection(s) to ensure minimum standards are met.

General Requirements

Max # of Children: up to 12 children (including care givers children)
Background Check: Required (on all people over 14 living in the home or regularly in the facility)

Training Required

Orientation Class: Yes
Abuse and Neglect Class: Yes
Adult / Infant First Aid and CPR: Yes

State Inspections: Yearly
Sanitation Inspection Required for License: Yes, yearly

Application Fees: $35 application fee + $35 initial permit fee + $2/per background check
